I listened through the stuff you've made. I don't want to be harsh or rude, but i don't know if you need to learn a bit of music theory and mixing, or if your music is out of my comprehension. I'm confused. Don't give up though

OjhaMelons responds:

I do need to learn new stuff. I just began like 5 days ago, and it is pretty bad. I am trying to get better though, and I do believe that Cider is better than trancedynamix or whatever it is called. I am trying my best! My instrument choices are bad, but the program I use has very limited instruments and I can not be bothered to learn high-level programs right now. The violin in this song is a bit intrusive, though.

This is far from what I usually listen to, it's very cool thoug.

snufflecat responds:

hehe thank u for listening :3

The main problem i have isn't the drum's sound quality, but your toms are too loud. The main characters on a drumset are the kick and the snare, in your track it's your toms, and the snare sounds like it's far away. Did you put a reverb effect directly in your snare track ? You should try to keep your snare signal dry, linking it to the Master track, and link your snare track to a separate one containing the reverb effect only. Like this, you can manage the amount of reverb you want for the snare and keep the punch of the dry signal

FarFromSundown responds:

I actually don't have anything on the drums except parallel compression and EQ. Everything is separate and tracked individually. I definitely agree this could be mixed better. I think I ended up moving past this to work on other songs. I'll probably revisit this song another time. I usually do that every so often. Thanks for taking the time to listen and review!

The sounds you used are very interesting. The feeling of futuristic and "rotten" world is here. The orchestration is really good.
Just the "cut" drum, I think it's too much, hearing it during almost all the song. It sounds repetitve, in my opinion.
Can you list the stuff you used ? I'm curious, because the overhaul sounds great

madboss responds:

Thanks for the comment, and yeah, I agree that I overused the drum. I fell in love how it sounded and how raw it expressed what I wanted to hear... thus I used it more than it was healthy. So the main reason why I replied so late is that I needed to dig the old project file to see what I used. Here is a complete list of VSTs I've used for the production:

Synths:
- HalionOne (Cubase Native)
- Embracer (Cubase Native)
- Prodyon - Shortnoise2
- Tone2 - Firebird
- 8DIO Hybrid Tools 1: Mega Horns

Strings:
- LA Scoring Strings

Brass:
- Cinesamples: Cinebrass

Percussion:
- Juggernaut

I like the chord progression, the arpeggio's notes are really good. From 0:45 to 1:16 I don't like the way you used the "buzzy" sound. In my opinion, it should keeps the role of background sound, like at the beginning, but then it sounds ok.
At 1:45 i was waiting for a heavy huge and epic drum line
The end is weird. It comes too quickly and makes me feel like "eh ? that's all ?"
The overhaul still pretty nice
Good job

JAMA-NDG responds:

Great feedback, thanks for reviewing my stuff!

The beginning is very interresting until 1:10
Then it's repetitive.
When the drum isn't there, the sidechain still here and it sounds weird.
A more various drum pattern would be nice, it could break the repetitive thing. More expression on the strings (crescendo decrescendo) will add this little thing that make a music more "emotional"
Keep working

JAMA-NDG responds:

Thanks again for the feedback!

The idea is here, but the drum and the melody are too repetitive. Try to create a more various melody, and play more with the drum, because here it's too "squarry"
Keep working

erja responds:

Thanks for the feedback

Solid work, the overhaul is good, just a bit repetitive

JAMA-NDG responds:

Thanks for the feedback!

So cool man. Just the drum line which sounds like a little repetitve, but i like the way that you play with it at the end, before the last main theme

LexRodent responds:

Thanks glad you like it. You are right about the drums, the variation it's too subtle and it feels a bit mechanic and repetitive. I'll try to add more distinct drum patterns next time.
